Who is Dennis Collins?

It has been said that "the smooth, soulful voice of singer Dennis Collins possesses, goes straight to the heart of all who hear it”. He is an American singer, songwriter, and producer, a true multi-genre artist and a member of a rare breed of singers, with the ability interpret many different musical styles.

A native of Detroit Michigan, a city known for its rich, musical heritage. He is the youngest of five children born to Pearline and John Collins. He was raised a closely knit family where music of all kinds filled his home daily. Along with his families’ Baptist church, Motown, Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, Donny Hathaway, music in school and the radio, the foundation of his music education was formed.

It was on a visit to New York City that his cousin, Krystal Davis, a singer in her own right, introduced him to the world of being a studio musician.

Over the next several years, he established a successful career for himself as an A-list, in demand studio/singer/performer in New York City. He, alongside Krystal, Luther Vandross, Jocelyn Brown, Yvonne Lewis, and Zach Saunders are the original members of the international studio created group, Change, which produced the hit songs “A Lover’s Holiday”, “The Glow Of Love” and “Searching” as well as its follow up project, Miracles, with three of its singles all reaching number one on the Billboard Club Play Singles Chart. He sang on three of the group, Inner Life’s albums (I’m Caught Up [In A One Night Love Affair], Inner Life, and Inner Life ll) with the legendary, Jocelyn Brown—the second of which featured the classic remake of Ashford & Simpson’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”. He is also on the global Odyessy single, “Going Back To My Roots”.

Soon after, he caught the attention of one of his idols, the great Roberta Flack, who invited him to join her band on a three week tour of Japan as a featured vocalist, performing the duets she recorded with Donny Hathaway. Their professional association lasted 30 plus years until her passing in 2025.

He has also recorded and/or performed with everyone from Roberta Flack, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson Springsteen, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Smokey Robinson, Valerie Simpson, Hosier, Bob Dylan, Carole King, James Taylor, Chic, Alicia Keyes, Sting, David Bowie, Billy Joel, Bette Midler, Bonnie Raitt, Steely Dan, Ralph McDonald, Patti Austin, Melba Moore, Jon Batiste, Faith Hill, Reba McEntire, Nona Hendryx, Serge Gainsbourg, Willie Nelson and many others.
